12 former Alabama players let go on NFL’s cut day

During the NFL preseason, the Philadelphia Eagles had more Alabama alumni on their roster than any other NFL team with 10. Now the Eagles have seven.

On Tuesday, each NFL team was required to reduce its preseason roster to 53 players on its regular-season active roster.

On its way to getting there, Philadelphia waived three men who had played at Alabama – tight end Cameron Latu, cornerback Eli Ricks and running back Keilan Robinson.

None is a rookie. Ricks has played in 23 regular-season games and one playoff contest for the Eagles over the past two seasons, Robinson played in six games for the Jacksonville Jaguars as a fifth-round rookie in 2024 and Latu has not appeared in an NFL game. A third-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in 2023, Latu spent his rookie season on injured reserve and most of last season on the Cleveland Browns practice squad.

The former Eagles were among 11 Alabama alumni waived on Tuesday in the NFL. The other players were:

Cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis (St. Paul’s Episcopal) by the Baltimore Ravens

Wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks (Alabama) by the Washington Commanders

Guard Darrian Dalcourt by the Baltimore Ravens

Tight end C.J. Dippre by the New England Patriots

Wide receiver Traeshon Holden by the Dallas Cowboys

Safety Jaylen Key by the Cincinnati Bengals

Running back Jase McClellan by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Center Seth McLaughlin by the Cincinnati Bengals

Brooks, Dippre, Holden and McLaughlin are undrafted rookies. Armour-Davis is the most experienced of the players with 19 games over the past three seasons with the Ravens.

Another former Alabama player had his contract terminated on Tuesday, when the Atlanta Falcons released linebacker/safety Ronnie Harrison. A third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and a veteran of 84 regular-season and two playoff games, Harrison has been in the league too long to have to pass through waivers. He became an immediate free agent when the Falcons cut him.

The waived players will have to wait until 11 a.m. CDT Wednesday to take their next steps in the NFL. The players can be claimed by other teams off the waiver wire until that time. If they go unclaimed, they become free agents.

At noon CDT Wednesday, NFL teams can start assembling their 16-player practice squads from the free agents.

Before Tuesday, three other former Alabama players had been let go since their team played its final preseason game:

Cornerback Tony Brown by the Cleveland Browns

Punter James Burnip by the New Orleans Saints

Guard Javion Cohen (Central-Phenix City) by the Cleveland Browns
