Leeds United fell out of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night as they lost on penalties to Championship side Sheffield Wednesday.
A much-changed Leeds side travelled to Hillsborough in the second round of the competition, but found themselves 1-0 down in the second half thanks to a Karl Darlow own goal. Jayden Bogle scored the equaliser for Leeds with nine minutes to go to take the game to penalties.
Misses from Joel Piroe, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Sean Longstaff means that the Whites fell to a 3-0 defeat in the shootout. It means concentration for Leeds will now be fully on the Premier League.
Daniel Farke and his staff have just a few days to finish building the squad for the remainder of the season with less than a week of the summer transfer window remaining.
There has been a lot of talk about possible comings and goings over the last few days. With that in mind, here is a look at a couple of the latest developments.
Leeds transfer win
Leeds United have won in transfer negotiations with Valencia over a move for Largie Ramazani, according to latest reports in Spain. It was claimed earlier that a sticking point in negotiations between the two teams was on a purchase option being inserted into the loan deal, something that Leeds did not want.
Journalist German Munoz now reports that Valencia have now conceded and agreed to a loan deal without the option to make the loan permanent in the summer. They are now keen to get the deal done as soon as possible.
LeedsLive says : Leeds standing firm on their desire not to include a purchase option has seen them get the deal that they want. It also shows to other teams that they won’t be pushed about in transfer negotiations.
The fact that an option has not been included will now give Leeds more choice at the end of his loan deal next summer.
El Khannouss twist
Bilal El Khannouss is a name who has been linked with Leeds over the summer, with the Whites holding talks over the midfielder earlier in the window. They didn’t however seem to progress despite the club still being on the search for a number 10.
It did look like the Morocco international was going to end up at Crystal Palace at the replacement for Ebrechi Eze. However, Sky Sports report that the deal has now fallen through.
Leicester’s sale of James Justin to Leeds as well as Kasey McAteer to Ipswich means that they are now within their PSR obligations, meaning that they don’t have to sell El Khannouss.
They have therefore changed their demands for the player, insisting on a fee of £35 million up front if they are to cash in this summer. It’s reported that Palace were willing to pay £32 million in structured payments.
LeedsLive says : If Leeds still have an interest in El Khannouss this summer, the purchase of Justin for £8 million, rising to £10 million, may not have helped their cause.
The fact that Leicester now don’t need to sell means that they will be more determined to keep the player who could just be the difference between promotion or not this season.
£35 million is probably a bit high for Leeds to pay for a player who is still developing and has shown glimpses of what he can do in the Premier League.
