Newcastle United are aiming to finalise last-minute changes to their squad for the 2025/26 season.
The transfer deadline is fast approaching, with the window closing at 7pm on September 1 and remaining shut until the New Year. Jacob Ramsey was Newcastle's latest signing from Aston Villa, joining the likes of Anthony Elanga, Malick Thiaw, Aaron Ramsdale, and Antonio Cordero.
The midfielder made his debut in Monday's last minute 3-2 defeat at home to Liverpool. While Eddie Howe's side prepare for a trip to Elland Road to face Leeds United next weekend, work behind the scenes continues on potential transfers in and out of the club.
Chronicle Live has taken a look at the latest headlines from in and around of St James' Park.
Strand Larsen bid 'imminent'
Newcastle are 'expected' to complete a deal for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen this summer, with a new offer reportedly imminent.
Former Norway international Jan Aage Fjortoft wrote on his X (formerly Twitter) account: "Newcastle saw a £50m bid rejected yesterday by Wolves, but I still expect this deal to go through. Another offer is imminent, and I’m told it should be enough to make Jorgen a Newcastle player."
Chronicle Live says: As it stands, Howe has no senior striker available in his squad due to Alexander Isak’s ongoing absence. In his place, young forward William Osula stepped up against Liverpool, even bagged himself a goal. The potential arrival of Strand Larsen would provide Newcastle with another strong option up front, offering both experience and physical presence to complement the squad.
His addition could ease the burden on Howe’s current attacking players and take some of the pressure off Osula as the team navigates the challenges of the 2025/26 season.
Isak 'decision'
The Telegraph reports that Isak remains determined to leave the club despite talks with chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan. According to the report, Isak reiterated his desire to join Liverpool following a meeting with a PIF delegation and co-owner Jamie Reuben. He is said to be determined to stay on strike until his preferred move is secured.
Meanwhile, TBR Football report that the bid could approach £140million, depending on add-ons, but it falls short of the £150m Newcastle are demanding.
Isak is said to have reiterated his desire to leave the club during talks with Newcastle officials this week.
Chronicle Live says: The situation with Isak continues to be complex and delicate for everyone involved. Retaining a player who is said to be determined to leave St James' Park could create unrest within the squad and hinder the club’s progress on the pitch.
With the transfer window ticking down, keeping a potentially unhappy striker may disrupt the squad. Moreover, growing frustration among supporters over the handling of the situation could contribute to a tense atmosphere, both inside and outside the club. If not resolved promptly, this combination of player discontent and fan dissatisfaction risks creating a toxic environment that could affect performance.
