Fabrizio Romano: Tottenham make phone call to sign £75m Bournemouth star after talks in last 24 …

Tottenham Hotspur have been in contact with Bournemouth to discuss a potential move for Antoine Semenyo, as they continue to try and improve their options in the final third, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Semenyo has enjoyed an incredible spell with the Cherries in recent years, earning himself a new deal earlier in the summer. Bournemouth did previously slap a £75m price tag on Semenyo's head, even before he agreed to sign a new contract, and after they lost a host of players in the window, they won't want to let him leave easily.

Tottenham are pushing to try and bring in another player in the final third before the window closes next week, particularly after it was confirmed that James Maddison would be out for the majority of the season due to injury. Moves for Eberechi Eze and Morgan Gibbs-White, despite being advanced, have both fallen through this summer, and they've been struggling to find alternatives.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano has confirmed that Tottenham have made calls to discover whether they could make a move to sign Semenyo in the summer transfer window.

"In the last 24/48 hours, Tottenham also made some calls for other players. They wanted to understand the situation of Lucas Paqueta at West Ham. Also a player they appreciate and they know very well, and was already a target, but now, obviously, it's late in the market, so it's going to be difficult, is Semenyo at Bournemouth. Another name mentioned internally at Tottenham in the last 24 hours, then soon it's going to be time to decide. Soon is going to be the time to make final decisions, attack and go for these new signings. But for sure, Tottenham will be busy again on the market. It's not over at all. So they are optimistic to find the solutions they want."

It's unclear how the enquiry for Semenyo went for Spurs, but it feels unlikely that they'd be willing to even consider his exit so late in the summer transfer window. Bournemouth already lost Milos Kerkez, Dean Huijsen, and Ilya Zabarnyi this summer, so offloading Semenyo on top of that would weaken their squad even further.
