West Ham have made an offer for Nottingham Forest midfielder Ibrahim Sangare, as they look to bolster Graham Potter’s options.

West Ham have also agreed a £17million fee to sign Soungoutou Magassa, who is expected to arrive at the London Stadium imminently.

The Monaco man is expected to take a starting role in the Premier League, with Potter keen to add another midfielder to partner him.

West Ham failed with an initial bid for Mateus Fernandes, with Southampton reportedly looking for a fee in excess of £40m.

The demand for midfielders also relates to potential outgoings at the London Stadium.

The Athletic reported on 26 August that West Ham have made a loan offer to sign the Ivory Coast international, with Nottingham Forest willing to sanction the departure of a midfielder following the arrival of Douglas Luiz.

Decision-makers at the City Ground are tempted by the prospect, despite the 27-year-old’s starting involvement in both of Nuno Espirito Santo’s side’s opening Premier League games.

Forest are keen to recoup some of the £30m they spent to sign Sangare from PSV in 2023, and would be eager to include an option to make the move permanent next summer.

West Ham should be aware of Ibrahim Sangare issues

Sangare is a strong midfielder. The former Toulouse man boasts impressive defensive numbers and is more than capable with the ball at his feet.

But West Ham should be aware of the potential downsides that would arrive with the Ivory Coast international, too.

Sangare was missing for over five months last season with a serious hamstring injury, and played very little football upon his return.

West Ham Premier League fixtures during AFCON 2026:

December: Fulham (H), Brighton (H)

January: Wolves (A), Nottingham Forest (H), Tottenham Hotspur (A)

The injury has not yet shown signs of reoccurring, but should be a consideration for West Ham.

And that is not to mention the month of action between December and January that Sangare will miss playing for his country at AFCON 2026, with the midfielder a key man for Ivory Coast.
