John Kuhn sparks Packers buzz over Micah Parsons

The Green Bay Packers aren’t typically known for making bold moves in free agency or trades, but recent weeks have tied them closely to Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons. With the season just days away and Parsons’ contract standoff in Dallas still unresolved, speculation is growing that Green Bay could make a play for the superstar defender.

Micah Parsons requested a trade from the Cowboys weeks ago, yet he still hasn’t secured a new deal with Jerry Jones’ team. The Packers, meanwhile, enter the 2025 season in need of a premier pass rusher, and few players fit that role better than Parsons.

On Tuesday, Packers legend John Kuhn fueled speculation with a cryptic post on X, simply writing, “Micah Freaking Parsons.” Kuhn, a Super Bowl champion with Green Bay in 2011, seemed to hint at the star pass rusher’s possible arrival.

It may turn out to be nothing, and perhaps Kuhn was just trying to spark conversation, but that doesn’t really fit his usual style. The real question is whether the Packers are actually nearing a deal for Parsons.

Trading for Parsons would instantly elevate Green Bay’s chances of winning a Super Bowl. The Packers are already seen as one of the NFC’s top contenders, and adding him would only strengthen that case. Of course, Parsons would require a new contract that ranks among the richest for defensive players. GM Brian Gutekunst has shown a willingness to take bold swings in pursuit of a title, and acquiring Parsons would be the ultimate example of that approach.

Last year with the Cowboys, Parsons suited up for 13 games while battling injuries, yet still posted 43 tackles, 12 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a pass defended. In 2023, he played a full 17-game slate and delivered 64 tackles, 14 sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and two passes defended.

On the Cowboys’ side, head coach Brian Schottenheimer has already voiced optimism about Parsons being ready for the opener against the Philadelphia Eagles next week. He told ESPN’s Todd Archer that he had a productive conversation with the unhappy Pro Bowler.

Brian Schottenheimer said he had a productive, hour long conversation with Micah Parsons about a number of topics, including how he acted during the final preseason game, but said he will keep them private. While he has no assurance when/if Parsons will practice this week.
