Report: Discussions ongoing as £82k-a-week Leeds target who Farke loves could seal last-minute loan

Emi Buendia could be on the move in the final days of the transfer window, and Leeds United are one of the clubs who have long liked the Argentine.

Leeds United’s interest in Emi Buendia has been ongoing since the start of the year. Back in the January transfer window, Leeds United wanted to sign Buendia on loan from Aston Villa. But the former Norwich City man instead went to Germany, joining Bayer Leverkusen on loan.

Come the summer time, Leverkusen turned down the chance to sign Buendia following his loan spell, and he returned to Villa Park where, unexpectedly, he played himself back into contention under Unai Emery.

But the former Arsenal manager decided not to start Buendia in any of the opening two Premier League games. In fact, Emery brought Buendia off the bench in Villa’s 1-0 defeat against Brentford last time out, only to bring him off again in the second half.

Aston Villa reject loan bid for Leeds United target Emi Buendia

After coming off the bench in the first half and then coming back off in the second, Buendia was visibly frustrated with Emery’s decision and it’s now looking likely that Buendia could leave Villa Park before the September 1st transfer deadline. And coincidentally, The Athletic are now reporting that Stuttgart have had an initial loan with an option to buy offer rejected.

The same report adds that ‘Buendia’s future in the Midlands is uncertain, with Villa and the player currently weighing up a potential departure’. Furthermore, there are ‘discussions’ over whether or not Buendia is staying at the club, potentially opening up the door for Leeds to swoop in for the playmaker.

On Tuesday night, Leeds United lost against Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup and Farke may well view a new playmaker like Buendia as a potential final piece in the puzzle.

How much is Emi Buendia earning at Aston Villa?

For the 49ers, having already spent £100m on new Leeds United players this summer, a loan move for Buendia with an option to buy could be a perfect final deal of the transfer window. Leeds are yet to sign any players on loan and so there are spots open for a potential loan signing of Buendia.

But he certainly won’t come cheap with Salary Sport, claiming that Buendia earns up to £82,000 every week at Aston Villa. That said, Leeds United are now paying players quite hefty wages. After promotion from the Championship the Leeds players earned pay rises, with some now thought to be earning up to £70k every week, including Patrick Bamford.

Leeds still have some spending money left this summer and room for some loan signings. With no new no.10 having arrived yet this summer, a move for Buendia could be the perfect finale for Leeds’ summer transfer window, and the perfect move for Buendia to get his career back on track.
