Report: Man City are now ready to do something unexpected to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma from PSG

Manchester City are ready to take a new approach to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain over the coming days.

There has been a lot of talk around the goalkeeper position at the Etihad Stadium over the last two weeks, as Galatasaray continue to push for Ederson, but the Turkish club have yet to agree a deal with City regarding a transfer fee.

It remains to be seen if this deal gets over the line, as Ederson is believed to want to stay in the Premier League; however, if the Brazilian does depart Manchester, Man City will make their move for Donnarumma.

The Manchester club are yet to agree a transfer fee with PSG for the Italian goalkeeper, and a new report has stated that Man City have changed their stance on the 26-year-old, as they believe this new approach will help it land the player.

Man City are ready to wait until January to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma

Man City hope to sign Donnarumma closer to Deadline Day, as that is when the Premier League club believe they will get the best deal from PSG, who are keen to get the Italian star off their books having signed Lucas Chevalier from Lille.

According to L’Equipe, PSG previously set a €50m (£43m) price tag on Donnarumma, but Les Parisiens are now adamant their valuation won’t be met, as City are trying to negotiate a lower fee given that the player has just one year left on his current contract.

The report states that the Manchester club are ready to wait until the winter transfer window to sign Donnarumma, as his asking price would be significantly lower then.

PSG has begun seeking out other clubs for the Italian in recent days, as they hope another club joins the race for the 26-year-old, given the difficulties they are having in reaching an agreement with Man City.

Man City need to sign Gianluigi Donnarumma this week

Although Man City’s new stance on Donnarumma is the smart way forward, the Manchester club need to get this deal done now as the goalkeeper situation at the Etihad Stadium has become a little messy.

If the Premier League giants wait until January, how will that affect Ederson and James Trafford’s performances in the meantime, and it might not be easy to shift the Brazilian mid-season; therefore, Pep Guardiola could end up with three goalkeepers in January.

It seems best to sign Donnarumma now and have Trafford as his number two, as that lets everyone know where they stand and it allows City to fully focus on putting together a title-winning campaign without any distractions halfway through the season.
