Alexander Isak to Liverpool development as Newcastle transfer given green light

Wolves boss Vitor Pereira has said the club will sell Jorgen Strand Larsen to Newcastle if they bid the right price for the Norwegian striker. In a pursuit likely to have a knock-on effect for Liverpool’s ambitions to sign Alexander Isak, the Tyneside outfit has a second bid of £55million turned down on Tuesday.

The offer came just hours before the 25-year-old striker came off the bench to inspire his side to victory against West Ham. Trailing 2-1, Strand Larsen was introduced with 17 minutes to go and struck twice to turn the game around. For Pereira, though, the post-match talk was dominated by the future of the former Celta Vigo man, and not the result.

The Wolves manager said: “Until now, Jorgen is our player, and we'll see what happens. Football is football; every player has a price, I believe. Even Messi or Cristiano. But he is very, very important for us. We'll see what happens.”

He also insisted Strand Larsen remained committed to the club, adding: “I know him very well. He will never, never force a move. There are players I have known in this situation, and they just ask me not to play. But Larsen wants to play every time.”

Strand Larsen initially joined on loan last season, scoring 14 times. He only made his seal permanent this summer, but Pereira now faces losing him just two games into the 2025/26 Premier League campaign as Newcastle seeks a long-term replacement for Isak.

The 25-year-old’s ambitions to head to Anfield have been held up by Newcastle’s failure to find a backup option. The likes of Benjamin Sesko and Hugo Ekitike have slipped through their hands, while Brentford continue to play hardball over a deal for Yoane Wissa.
