Isaac Hayden is a name most Newcastle supporters have barely heard since the days of Steve Bruce.

He was released earlier this month after a mutual termination of his contract, and he’s now landed his first permanent move since leaving Newcastl,

The Arsenal academy graduate has joined QPR on a free transfer after spending the second half of the 2023/24 season on loan at Loftus Road.

His contract will last until 2027, with QPR announcing his signing on X with the caption ‘Hayden is HOME’ as he sealed the switch on Monday afternoon.

Hayden had loan spells at Norwich, Standard Liege, QPR and Portsmouth after being deemed surplus to requirements under Eddie Howe ever since the boss’ arrival in 2021.

The 30 year-old played 151 games for Newcastle United, scoring six goals, including that memorable header in a one nil win over Chelsea in 2020.

He joined in 2016, when Newcastle were in the Championship under Rafael Benitez, and became a mainstay under Benitez and Bruce, achieving promotion back to the Premier League and contributing defensively in the team’s  Premier League survival.

He became a fan favourite in a dark time for the club, showing passion whenever he stepped foot on the pitch. Fans identified with his tough tackling style of play, but he became phased out of the club for a lack of technical ability on the ball, being replaced with the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and a revitalised Joelinton.
