It has been an interesting offseason thus far for the Golden State Warriors as they still have yet to make any moves in free agency as the offseason nears the start of September.
Of course, the main reason for Golden State’s slow offseason is the ongoing saga between them and restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga.
Kuminga has reportedly turned down Golden State’s contract offer and while the Warriors are still awaiting a decision by the young forward, they have missed out on multiple key free agent targets.

While that may be the case, it has been reported that the Warriors do have deals in place with multiple free agents that will likely be finalized after Kuminga’s situation is resolved.
The Warriors have also been linked to other free agents outside of the main three of Al Horford, Gary Payton II and De’Anthony Melton and they have reportedly recently been showing interest in a former Phoenix Suns and Charlotte Hornets forward.
Warriors targeting Cody Martin in free agency
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, Golden State is showing interest in signing Cody Martin in free agency as he has emerged as a target for them.
“We’ve reported previously that Seth Curry and Malcolm Brogdon are candidates for a Warriors roster spot after Kuminga’s situation is resolved,” Fischer wrote. “Another name on the Warriors’ list of bench targets, sources say, is Cody Martin.”

For Martin, he played the first five and a half seasons of his career with the Hornets before being traded to the Suns last season as part of the Jusuf Nurkic deal.
In Phoenix, he saw little playing time over 14 games after averaging 6.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 44.0% from the field and 31.9% from three in his career in Charlotte.
The 29-year-old would be a solid addition to the Warriors’ bench as he would give the franchise another solid scorer and defender in their second unit who could also fill Kuminga’s role if he does end up on another team this offseason.

Martin would also be a cheap option for the Warriors as they continue to try and find ways to upgrade their rotation around Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green.
Despite this, Golden State is reportedly targeting multiple players in free agency and they could elect to look elsewhere outside of Martin to bolster their depth heading into the regular season.
