'Listen!': Club icon drops strong message to United fans after slow start to new season

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has issued a strong message to fans about manager Ruben Amorim and club captain Bruno Fernandes.

Speaking on his Rio Ferdinand Presents Podcast, the former defender insisted that United supporters need to calm down and show patience despite the slow start to the 2025-26 campaign.

He said: “We have had two games, the first game lost to Arsenal but a positive reaction from the fans. We went to Fulham, felt a bit like last season, had a good spell in the game, then it fizzled out and we kind of looked like we ran out of ideas and let the other team back in and dropped points.

“The criticism I have seen from the fans, ‘Amorim out’, ‘he’s not the guy’, when two games before they were saying to give him time, we are going to have a little bit of see how we get through, give him time to build his team and to work things out.

“People are changing their opinions like they are changing their boxer shorts. It is too quick.”

Ferdinand also jumped to the defence of Bruno Fernandes, who came under heavy fire after blazing a penalty over the bar against Fulham.

He added: “Bruno missed a penalty, people are saying ‘get rid’. You can’t change that quickly. Give time for the team to breathe this season.

“Listen, if we are talking 10 games in, or around Christmas, you can start having your opinions like that, but two games in, not happy, [but] just breathe, big deep breaths, guys.

“Let them play, but it’s difficult, I know, the passion sets in.”

Man United fans need to be patient in transition

INEOS have clearly exceeded expectations in recent months by spending over £200 million in the transfer window and by renovating Carrington.

The arrival of Premier League-proven attackers like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo will help United address their issues in attack.

United showed clear signs of progress when they hosted Arsenal in the opening league encounter.

They were more incisive with their passing, and their sharper movement helped them create plenty of chances.

United fans must back Amorim and the squad until Christmas before passing harsh judgement.

For too long, the club has been stuck in a cycle of manager sackings and blaming the owners. It’s time for supporters to show patience, stability, and genuine belief in the rebuild.
