Arsenal submit €10m bid for Girona 22yo

Arsenal have lodged a €10m offer for Arnau Martínez, according to Foot Mercato, as Mikel Arteta looks to reinforce at right-back following the departure of Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The proposal is said to consist of an €8m fee plus a further €2m in performance-related add-ons.

Martínez, a graduate of Girona’s academy, featured 39 times last season, scoring three goals and providing three assists as the Catalan club, part of the City Football Group, continued their rise in La Liga.

The 22-year-old has built a reputation for his athleticism and tactical versatility since breaking into Girona’s first team as a teenager in 2020. Comfortable at right-back, he has also operated centrally, attributes that we know appeal to Arteta.

Martínez has played 87 times in La Liga and is under contract at Girona until 2027. He scored the decisive goal in their promotion play-off in 2022 and has remained central to their team since their return to the top flight.

Internationally, he has represented Spain at youth level but has not yet made his senior debut.

His current market value is estimated to be between €10m-€13m.

Should he sign, Martínez would become Arsenal’s eighth arrival of the summer.
