West Ham United have all of a sudden ramped up their transfer business with the days ticking down until the window shuts.

West Ham have submitted a bid for Nottingham Forest midfielder Ibrahim Sangare, while a move for John Victor also now appears to be back on.

And it now appears that versatile defensive midfielder Soungoutou Magassa also now ends up at the London Stadium before the 1 September deadline.

That is despite some late interest for West Ham from Nottingham Forest for the 21-year-old Monaco ace.

West Ham win ‘tense’ battle to sign Soungoutou Magassa

Nottingham Forest and West Ham’s transfer business is intertwined at this late stage of the summer transfer window.

As well as the aforementioned move for Sangare, the two Premier League sides have also been battling it out to land Magassa from Monaco.

It has already been reported that West Ham were the frontrunners to land Magassa, but Forest’s late interest could potentially have put a spanner in the works.

However, The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg reported via X on 26 August that a move to West Ham is now effectively done, with the contracts details also being shared.

“West Ham to sign Monaco midfielder Soungoutou Magassa,” Steinberg tweeted. “Tense wait ends with the 21-year-old agreeing to sign six-year-deal, pending a medical.

“The France U21 international is flying to London after talks with Graham Potter and Kyle Macaulay. West Ham had to fend off interest from Forest.”

Soungoutou Magassa to become West Ham’s seventh summer signing

Assuming the medical is passed, Magassa will then be unveiled as a West Ham player in what is a massive boost for Potter during a tough period.

Magassa will follow Daniel Cummings, El Hadji Malick Diouf, Kyle Walker-Peters, Callum Wilson, Mads Hermansen and Jean-Clair Todibo in joining West Ham this summer, the latter making his loan move permanent.

Jean-Clair Todibo – Defender signed from OGC Nice

El-Hadji Malik Diouf – Wing-back signed from Slavia Prague

Kyle Walker-Peters – Defender signed on a free transfer

Callum Wilson – Striker signed on a free transfer

Mads Hermansen – Goalkeeper signed from Leicester

Daniel Cummings – Forward signed from Celtic

Magassa was clearly a player in demand, so getting a deal over the line – again, assuming the medical is passed and there are no late glitches – is good business on West Ham’s behalf.

There is no doubt the 2025-26 season has started terribly, but there is no reason why some late business cannot help lift the mood around the London Stadium.

With Magassa as good as signed, let’s hope another couple follow before Monday night.
