Onana truth revealed as'shock'Prem club are linked with Man United goalkeeper

Manchester United are not allegedly in discussions with West Ham United over a potential loan deal for goalkeeper Andre Onana despite recent reports.

Onana is yet to feature for the Red Devils this season, with Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim selecting Altay Bayindir between the sticks for the Premier League games against Arsenal and Fulham.

The Cameroon international missed pre-season with a hamstring issue, but he did train all of last week and was still named on the bench for the league contest with Marco Silva's side.

Man United are expecting to sign Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens before the end of the summer transfer window, which would leave them with four senior players in that area of the field.

There has been speculation surrounding Onana's future over the last 24 hours, with West Ham said to have opened talks over a potential loan deal for the former Inter Milan stopper.

However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Hammers are not currently in discussions with the Red Devils over a potential loan move to the London Stadium.

Romano reiterates that the arrival of Lammens would not necessarily mean that Onana leaves, although one senior goalkeeper - potentially Bayindir - could depart before the window closes.

Onana is expected to feature between the sticks when Man United tackle Grimsby Town in the second round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

However, it would be a surprise to see him in goal against Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday, with Amorim currently favouring Bayindir despite his issues from corners against Fulham on Sunday.

Does Onana have a future at Man United?

There is no getting away from the fact that Onana has struggled during his two seasons in Manchester, with the Cameroonian making a string of high-profile errors.

After the clash with Fulham on Sunday, Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim said that he takes a number of factors into consideration when selecting his starting goalkeeper.

"I am focused on our goalkeepers. Like every manager I look at the amount of training, what I see in pre-season, in the games and try to decide who is the best goalkeeper to use in a game and I am going to continue to do that," Amorim told BBC Sport.

Onana was linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League earlier this summer, while there were also suggestions that Inter wanted to re-sign him.

The goalkeeper does not appear to have a long-term future with the 20-time English champions, but he could stay this summer as competition for Lammens, with Bayindir potentially on his way out.
