Fernandes' transfer plan 'revealed' amid fresh links with Saudi Arabia

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes will reportedly give serious consideration to leaving Old Trafford next summer, but he is set to remain with the Red Devils for the 2025-26 campaign.

There has been a host of speculation surrounding the Portugal international's future this summer, with Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr and Al-Ittihad all believed to have made attempts to sign him since the end of last season.

Al-Ittihad have allegedly made a late attempt to sign the 30-year-old before the window closes, but the expectation is that Fernandes will remain at Old Trafford for at least one more season.

According to the Daily Mail, Fernandes wants to avoid disruption in a World Cup year, and he remains committed to the challenge of helping Man United navigate their way through a very difficult period.

The report, though, claims that a switch to Saudi Arabia during next summer's transfer window is a serious possibility, with offers again expected to be present in 2026.

Fernandes could move to Saudi Pro League 'next year'

Fernandes will allegedly weigh up his offers following the 2026 World Cup, with the Portuguese's contract due to expire in June 2027, although Man United have the option to extend his deal for a further 12 months.

The attacker has been one of Man United's best-ever signings, starring for the 20-time English champions since making the move to Old Trafford from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020.

Fernandes has a record of 98 goals and 86 assists in 292 appearances for Man United, but he has had a frustrating start to the 2025-26 campaign.

The Red Devils captain missed a penalty in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Fulham in the Premier League, and he has found it difficult to make his mark in central midfield at the start of the new season.

Will Amorim be forced to change Fernandes plans?

Fernandes has featured in central midfield at the start of this season, with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha signed with the view to operating in the number 10 spots.

Cunha has featured through the middle against Arsenal and Fulham, with Mason Mount also in the side, but the expectation is that Benjamin Sesko will be the centre-forward once he is up to full speed.

Man United have a major problem in the middle of their midfield, and Amorim may have to rethink his plans for Fernandes, as the Portuguese has found it difficult in the first two games of the new season.

Fernandes' best work comes in the final third of the field, but it remains to be seen whether a new central midfielder arrives at Old Trafford before the transfer deadline.
