Leicester icon Vardy could complete one of the most surprising moves of the summer as contact…

Jamie Vardy made the difficult decision to end his stay with Leicester City in the summer. The Englishman, who joined the Foxes in 2012, enjoyed a highly-successful 13 years at the club where he made 500 appearances and hit the back of the net 200 times. He helped the club to four trophies, including the Premier League in 2016 and the FA Cup in 2021.

Vardy remained a key player for Leicester in the 2024/25 season as he made 36 appearances across all competitions, hitting the back of the net 10 times. However, following their relegation from the Premier League, he decided it was time to leave the club.

Now 38 years old, Vardy has no intention to hang up his boots and believes he still has a lot to offer. He has been linked with a whole host of clubs, including Rangers and Wrexham. Sunderland have also been linked with his signature.

Vardy has taken his time in choosing a new club and he could soon complete a surprise move. Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that Serie A side Cremonese 'dreams of the arrival of Jamie Vardy'.

It has been stated that the Italian club, who earned promotion back to Serie A last season, have made initial contact and are now waiting to see if the player will decide to embrace their project.

If he joins, Vardy will become the club's first-ever English player, and just the second from the United Kingdom after Jack Hendry. Scottish defender Henry featured on loan for the club in the 2022/23 season, featuring six times.

Cremonese made a great start to life back in Serie A last weekend. They were given an extremely tough opening day fixture away at AC Milan, but they were able to pull off a shock 2-1 victory. The arrival of Vardy could be another huge boost as they look to avoid relegation back to Italy's second tier.

Rio Ferdinand Dismisses Talk of Man United Move

There have been suggestions that Man United should sign Vardy to be a backup striker. Rio Ferdinand does not think that's a good idea, though. Speaking on his Rio Presents YouTube channel, the United legend said:

"As much as I love Jamie Vardy and I respect everything he's done in the game, he's not what Man United need right now. He's just gone a bit too far over the hill to really be able to impact the team.

"You can't bring someone in just to impact the changing room. He isn't going to want to come there and just sit down and just chill. He wants to play football, with the type of person he is. As much as he's got experience, it's just not the right time.

"I can't believe he's not signed for Wrexham. Right now, I just think it would probably be more harmful for Vardy to come here [to Man Utd] for himself than it would benefit us."
