Journalist Confirms "Official" £50M Bid Has Been Made As Newcastle Make Move For Player Howe Admires

Newcastle have made an “official” offer worth £50m for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, according to the Express & Star reporter Liam Keen.

The proposal was rejected with Keen claiming that the Norwegian international is “not for sale”. The news was quickly followed up by trusted Sky Sports journalist Keith Downie, who verified that the Magpies had tabled the bid, with the player admired by manager Eddie Howe.

Some have already suggested that Jorgen Strand Larsen is being eyed as a potential replacement for Callum Wilson, rather than Alexander Isak.

That may suggest the proposed move for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa may be dead in the water.

Why are Wolves so keen on keeping Strand Larsen?

The 25-year-old only made the switch to Molineux on a permanent basis for €30m (£26m) in July, having spent last season on loan from Celta Vigo.

During his first 12 months with Wolves, Strand Larsen scored 14 times in 35 appearances. Those performances clearly caught the attention of Howe and his recruitment team.

Even so, the Norwegian’s club are very reluctant to let him leave as they have already lost a key player, Matheus Cunha, to Manchester United this summer.

Newcastle have considered moves for other strikers

While the uncertainty around Isak’s future continues, amid reports that Liverpool may return with a second bid for the player over the coming week, the Magpies have also been linked with several other No.9s.

Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, Atletico Madrid’s Alexander Sorloth and Paris Saint-Germain’s Goncalo Ramos are some of the alternatives that have been mentioned in reports.

No matter whether Isak goes or stays, it is important that the club strengthen up front between now and the transfer deadline on Monday.
