Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs’ starters looked as good as ever despite them going 0-3 in the 2025 NFL preseason. Now, the Chiefs will prepare for the regular season, traveling to Brazil to take on the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 5.

Kansas City finalized its 53-man roster on Tuesday, releasing numerous players in the process. Starting the preseason with four quarterbacks on the roster, one of the first moves the Chiefs made was letting go of Bailey Zappe on Monday.

But Kansas City wasn’t done there.

Chiefs Waive Another Quarterback

On Tuesday, as the roster deadline passed, the Chiefs announced their final roster for the season, opting to move forward with only two quarterbacks and waiving Chris Oladokun.

Oladokun learned of his release earlier in the day and announced the news on social media, attempting to stay positive.

“Bad news: I was waived today,” Oladokun wrote on X. “Good news: if I didn’t have the day off today, I wouldn’t have been able to slam dunk a 40 yard wedge shot for birdie.⛳️😂 Excited for the future! #PositiveVibesOnly”

Oladokun has been with the Chiefs since 2022, spending most of his time on the practice squad. In each of the past two seasons, he was part of Kansas City’s final roster cuts before being added back to the practice squad, a scenario likely to repeat this year. Oladokun has only appeared in one regular-season game, recording one rush for five yards and a sack.

Chiefs Quarterback Depth

Last season, with Oladokun on the practice squad, the Chiefs only had two quarterbacks on their active roster: Mahomes and Carson Wentz. With Wentz departing for the Minnesota Vikings, Kansas City elected to bring in Gardner Minshew.

But if Mahomes can stay healthy for the entire season, the Chiefs won’t need to add a third quarterback. The former Texas Tech star has proven to be one of the best players in the NFL, winning two MVP awards and three Super Bowls in five appearances.
