Fabrizio Romano now shares what he's heard on Savinho joining Tottenham this morning

Tottenham Hotspur are still waiting for Manchester City to give the green light for Savinho to join the club, with Spurs keen on securing his signature this summer, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed, writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter.

Adding further attacking options has been a priority for Spurs all throughout the summer transfer window. Although they haven't sold any key players in the final third, Dejan Kulusevski is currently out , while James Maddison has been ruled out for the majority of the campaign due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Morgan Gibbs-White was a key target for the north London club, with a deal close to being agreed for the England international. Just when the move appeared to be going through, Nottingham Forest managed to convince him to sign a new contract at the City Ground. Spurs then turned to Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze, before Arsenal hijacked the move late on. Now, Spurs are desperately searching for alternatives in the market.

Fabrizio Romano: Savinho to Tottenham Update

Savinho in action for Manchester City

Writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter, Romano has confirmed that Tottenham are still hoping for Man City to open the doors for a sale. As it stands, Romano suggests that there has been no green light from the Manchester club...

"Still hoping for City to open doors but at the moment, no green light from the Citizens."

Savinho is predominantly a wide player, so he might not be a direct replacement for Maddison in the attacking midfield position, but Thomas Frank likes to have versatile options in the final third. Mohammed Kudus, who joined the club from West Ham United earlier in the transfer window, is capable of playing in a more central role, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see a bit of fluidity in Tottenham's attack.

Understandably, Man City don't want to lose Savinho easily. The Brazilian winger has already made a significant impact at Premier League level, while he's still young and yet to reach his full potential. It could take a significant fee for Spurs to get a deal over the line, but they've already shown that they are willing to spend a lot of money in improving their attack, considering their pursuits of Eze and Gibbs-White earlier in the window.
