Newcastle United ‘make their move’ for striker – Club looking for guarantees as Magpies swoop

On Tuesday, Il Tempo reported intermediaries are trying to set up a Newcastle United move for AS Roma striker Artem Dovbyk.

Villarreal have also been interested in the Ukrainian but it’s now reported the Magpies have come forward for the player. Today’s Corriere dello Sport reports Newcastle United have ‘made their move’ for Dovbyk and offered a dry loan deal.

Roma are interested in moving the 28-year-old on but they want a permanent exit or guarantees of a sale. So far, Eddie Howe’s side haven’t offered either of the two and Villarreal have also offered only a dry loan.

Newcastle United’s move is currently facing further problems as they face a race against time.

Roma want to sign a replacement for Dovbyk if they sell him. Now, time is running out and his exit is becoming complicated.

The newspaper note the Spanish side club are selling Yeremy Pino to Crystal Palace for €30m and this can hand Villarreal funds to sign Dovbyk.

The Giallorossi need around €30m to let the Ukraine international depart as they look to balance their books, having signed the forward from Girona only a season ago.
