NFL insider Aaron Wilson suggested with a tweet that the Pittsburgh Steelers may be interested in recently cut receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
The Pittsburgh Steelers kept five wide receivers on their first 53-man roster Tuesday. But that doesn’t mean the team won’t be interested in adding to the group before the season. One possibility may have emerged after the Seattle Seahawks released veteran wideout Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
NFL insider Aaron Wilson suggested in a tweet late Tuesday night that the Steelers could be interested in Valdes-Scantling.
The tweet is unclear whether “next up” for Valdes-Scantling is a visit or workout with the Steelers and San Francisco 49ers or if those two teams are just simply interested. But it’s apparent Wilson sees the Steelers as a potential landing spot for the veteran receiver.
That’s not shocking. The Steelers could use additional receiver depth, especially more experience.
On Tuesday, the team waived its most experienced receiver in Robert Woods.
Valdes-Scantling could make sense because of his previous relationship with Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The pair were teammates with the Green Bay Packers for four seasons from 2018-21.
Since then, Valdes-Scantling has played for the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and New Orleans Saints. The receiver was on the Chiefs back-to-back winning Super Bowl teams in 2022 and 2023.
Last season, Valdes-Scantling played for both the Bills and Saints. He registered 19 catches for 411 receiving yards and four touchdowns in 14 games overall.
Despite turning 30 years old during last season, he averaged 21.6 yards per catch.
