Dominic Calvert-Lewin made his debut for Leeds United last night, and the former Everton striker had a game to forget.
Leeds fans were in disbelief at how poor Calvert-Lewin was during his 32-minute cameo off the substitutes’ bench.
The former Everton centre-forward missed three big chances in open play and then blazed his penalty over the bar in the shootout.
That saw Sheffield Wednesday advance to the next round despite their squad being completely threadbare due to their financial crisis.
Calvert-Lewin has now broken his silence with a message to Leeds supporters.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin sends honest message to Leeds fans after horror debut
Calvert-Lewin didn’t stay at Everton due to his financial demands, so clearly Leeds are paying him a hefty wage.
The newly-promoted Premier League side have handed him the number nine shirt in a show of faith that he’ll be the main man.
But, his first minutes in a Leeds shirt haven’t given fans much optimism, as he showed all the same flaws that Everton supporters have seen over the years.

Calvert-Lewin took to X, formerly known as Twitter, after the game and said: “Very proud to make my debut for this great club tonight, but also disappointed with how it went.
“I came here to give everything and that’s what i will continue to do. Can’t wait to see you all at Elland Road.”
What Leeds United manager Daniel Farke said about Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s debut
Leeds boss Daniel Farke was inevitably asked about Calvert-Lewin’s debut, and he was quick to explain that he’s only just returned to training.
“Dominic had three great chances – I’d say on normal day he scores two of them. We don’t need to be critical with him after a long break, just got back to team training,” Farke explained.
The former England international has been sidelined for a lengthy period of time and missed pre-season training.
So perhaps when he’s fully up to speed, he can be a success at Leeds, who sorely need a prolific striker to keep them up this season.
