Nuno receives blunt message as real problem claim made before Evangelos Marinakis and Edu…

Nuno Espirito Santo has been respectfully told he might need to “get over” the problems with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis and global head of football Edu.

Nuno’s future at the City Ground is in the spotlight amid an extraordinary few days at the club.

The Portuguese admitted last Friday to a deterioration in his relationship with Marinakis, while it has also been alleged there is a rift between Nuno and Edu.

Nuno underlined his commitment to Forest after their Premier League draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday, and is now expected to meet with both Marinakis and Edu in a bid to find a way forward.

Former Forest player David Prutton suggests Edu’s influence on transfers this summer has contributed to the situation.

“Rumours suggest that, I mean, going back to when Edu first took over, that Nuno wanted someone of an Adama Traore ilk,” he said, speaking on The Sports Agents podcast.

“Omari Hutchinson comes in. Again, very good player, young player. A lot of money, £37 million for a player such as that.

“But there was a (Jorge) Mendes approach at one stage at Forest, to a degree, not necessarily only his players, and Kia Joorabchian, obviously, is Edu’s camp as well.”

Forest have made several signings during the summer transfer window, with Hutchinson, James McAtee, Arnaud Kalimuendo and Douglas Luiz the latest arrivals, following Igor Jesus, Jair Cunha, Dan Ndoye and Angus Gunn.

They have also made an unbeaten start to the new Premier League season, with victory over Brentford on the opening day and the draw against Palace.

“It was all going so swimmingly well. Why are you two arguing at the top of all this?” Prutton added.

“These are good players. Whether they're the players that Nuno wanted, that may be the kind of real crumb at the start of it all for Nuno. And I say this with the utmost respect, because I think he's been a glorious manager. Maybe it's just something that he has to get over?”
