Ipswich Town transfer rumour: Blues one of four teams linked with Man City right-back

Transfer expert Ben Jacobs has revealed that the Blues are showing 'late-window interest' in the 24-year-old right-back, who is also a target for Championship rivals Leicester City, Bundesliga side Hamburg and Ligue 1 outfit Paris FC.

Kabore is a 49-cap Burkina Faso international who signed for Belgian team Mechelen from boyhood club Rahimo FC in 2019. A move to the Etihad Stadium soon followed, but he is yet to make a single senior appearance for Man City.

Instead, he has been sent out on loan six times, returning to Mechelen before stints at Troyes, Marseille (both Ligue 1), Luton Town (Premier League), Benfica (Primeira Liga) and Werder Bremen (Bundesliga).

The Cityzens are reportedly open to yet another loan, but they would prefer to sell him before deadline day next Monday.

Alex's verdict

Clearly comes from a reliable source. At first, I was somewhat confused, given that Town are well-stocked at right-back. However, given Kabore's versatility, this could make sense.

Most of his minutes have come as a wing-back in a back five, but he can also play further forward in a 4-2-3-1 formation - with similar traits to Wes Burns and Chieo Ogbene, offering searing pace down that flank.

He's also had minutes at left-back, meaning that he could combine with Ben Johnson and Ashley Young to cover Conor Townsend's absence.

Ipswich currently have three loanees at the club (Cedric Kipre, Jens Cajuste and Chuba Akpom). The limit in a matchday squad is five, with the cap in a registered 25-man Championship squad set at eight.
