Report: Jorge Mendes' behaviour throws £17m Wolves deal into jeopardy as Crystal Palace make…

The transfer window closes on Monday, meaning Wolves are racing against the clock to get new players through the door – but one player could now be heading elsewhere after being linked.

All the talk is currently about Jorgen Strand Larsen and whether he will stay or not.

Newcastle have made two bids for Strand Larsen, failing with both. It is thought the striker would be keen on making the move.

But Wolves are hoping to be very busy on the incomings front.

Defender Ladislav Krejci will join Wolves on loan initially for around £6 million, with a £20 million buy option in place for next year.

And one other player who has been strongly linked with Wolves is Christantus Uche – but there’s now been a somewhat ominous development.

It was reported last night that Crystal Palace have made a move for Uche.

It had previously been reported that Wolves had agreed a deal with Getafe for Uche in the region of £17 million. Personal terms were also thought to have been agreed.

But the Daily Mail has reported that Palace have now swooped.

And amid this, a worrying claim has been made by a Spanish publication.

Tema Christantus Uche.

According to journalist Edu Burgos, Uche and his agent are currently refusing to give the final green light to Wolves, because they are not happy with the way the transfer is being handled.

Apparently, they aren’t happy with the way Jorge Mendes – serving as an intermediary – has acted. And the salary that has been offered to the player isn’t convincing.

Burgos adds in another post though that the situation could yet be resolved, and that meetings took place all day yesterday. It is thought Uche has no issue with Wolves, just the handling of the move at the moment.

In a further report on the situation from AS, it’s stated a new meeting is said to be taking place today, so potentially there could be a breakthrough, or even a collapse.

Wolves don’t have time to waste

Wolves are rapidly running out of time to get new players in, so this update about Uche is frustrating. Especially given all the talk about Strand Larsen and how he could leave.

The claim that Mendes’ behaviour is casting doubt on this move may mean it now collapses, especially with Palace lurking.

We have seen Wolves miss out on several players already this summer, and fans will worry that there could be another case of that here.

It would be a real shame, since an agreement between the clubs is in place, and how Uche would be a great addition to the squad.

Hopefully in this meeting that will supposedly take place today, things can be smoothed over and a move can be facilitated.
