The Eagles’ initial 53-man roster could look different after 12 p.m. today.
On Tuesday afternoon, general manager Howie Roseman finalized his first edition of the 2025 Eagles, but that version is like a rough draft of an essay. Many changes are made to the first copy of a paper to make it sound better. Words are crossed out. Paragraphs are restructured. These tiny adjustments can make the difference between an A and B.
It’s the same approach to roster building. Over the next few days, Roseman will add and cut players to improve his team. And a few of those moves could help the Eagles go on another Super Bowl run.
“We are not done,” Roseman told reporters on Tuesday. “We will see what happens over the next 24 hours. We have a lot of (draft) picks. We are happy to use those picks, but in the early part of the season in September, we have to see what we have. If we need something, I’ll do whatever I can to help this football team and be aggressive.”
The Eagles will return 10 out of their 11 starters on offense, and the one new starter (right guard Tyler Steen) had a strong training camp. There are some depth concerns, but none that should derail the team from repeating.
However, the Eagles have problematic issues on defense. Their edge rush depth has weakened and is no longer a strength. Their No. 2 cornerback could potentially be a liability, and both free safety options (Sydney Brown and Drew Mukuba) are unproven.
During Tuesday’s press conference, Roseman expressed confidence in Philadelphia’s cornerbacks and edge rushers, but that means little. Of course, he’s going to say good things about his players. He gains nothing by announcing his doubts.
But Roseman’s moves over the next week and up to the trade deadline will reveal his thoughts on the roster. Roseman could sure up multiple spots (EDGE, S, CB and punt returner) before Week 1.
To land a difference maker at edge rusher, the Eagles would have to make a trade. Maybe that happens at some point, but let’s focus on who Roseman could target on waivers or sign as a free agent.
Here are some of the top options who became available yesterday at positions of need (each player’s former team is listed).
