Journalist“Shocked”That Chelsea Have Not Considered Sanchez Replacement Who Is Available For£26M

Chelsea are not expected to make a move for a new goalkeeper before the transfer window shuts, according to journalist Graeme Bailey.

Speaking to the Chelsea Chronicle, Bailey said he is surprised that the Blues have not really considered a move for PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma and he wouldn’t completely rule out an approach for the Italian international before Monday’s deadline:

“The goalkeeper situation, I think they’re happy to assess that in January as it stands now. I’m still shocked they’re not in the Donnarumma conversation slightly more.”

“Could that change the next few days? Never say never, the hierarchy may have a change of heart in that regard and Chelsea are fully aware of what’s going on there.”

Another team are currently favourites to sign Donnarumma

At the moment, Manchester City are the only club that have made a concerted effort to secure the services of the 26-year-old.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Paris Saint-Germain have lowered their asking price to around €30m (£26m), which makes Donnarumma a very tempting target.

It should also be pointed out that the Italian’s move to City is not a foregone conclusion. The Manchester club need to offload Ederson first before sealing his signature.

Should Chelsea keep faith with Sanchez?

Some were critical of Robert Sanchez’s failure to stop Lucas Paqueta’s opening goal for West Ham last Friday. It was an excellent long-range strike so it would be harsh to blame the Spaniard.

Even so, there have been ongoing questions about his future as the club’s no.1. The pursuit of AC Milan’s Mike Maignan earlier this summer clearly suggested that the Blues were seeking an upgrade, so could they now turn their attention towards Donnarumma? At the moment, it seems like they are focused on strengthening other positions.
