Report: Ipswich Town and Leicester City in European transfer battle for 'brilliant' Manchester City defender

Ipswich Town have not had the best of starts to the season, and Kieran McKenna is still looking to add to his squad before the transfer window shuts.

The Tractor Boys face Derby County on Saturday, a team whom they have the better of in recent years, but the Suffolk outfit have failed to win any of their opening three Championship games.

Ipswich showed flickers of brilliance against Southampton, but they were beaten 1-0 by Preston North End on Saturday, much to the frustration of their manager.

However, with time still left in the transfer window, they still have the opportunity to add to their squad and they have turned their attention to a young Manchester City defender.

Ipswich Town and Leicester City register interest in Manchester City’s Issa Kabore

Adding to the defensive unit is crucial for the Tractor Boys, having already made their star striker signing in the form of Chuba Akpom.

According to Ben Jacobs, Ipswich have turned their attention to Manchester City’s Issa Kabore, with Leicester City also targeting the 24-year-old.

The Burkina Faso international could leave City on a permanent deal, but the Premier League giants are also open to letting him depart on loan.

However, the two Championship sides are not the only teams interested, with Germany’s Hamburg and France’s Paris FC also tracking the right-back.

Rob Edwards is a huge fan of Issa Kabore after Luton Town loan

Kabore joined Manchester City from Belgian club KV Mechelen in 2020, but he is yet to make his debut for the team and has been out on loan five different times already in his career.

In 2023, he joined Luton Town as they won promotion to the Premier League, and he made a strong impression at Kenilworth Road. It’s this sort of experience that will appeal to McKenna and Ipswich, with Rob Edwards praising his performance against Crystal Palace.

After making a mistake against Aston Villa a week earlier, he made up for it against the Eagles, with his former boss handing him credit in March 2024. He said (via: Luton Today): “Our supporters love him as they can see him giving absolutely everything.

“He is full tilt all of the time, the amount of times in training I have to say ‘Issa just steady on, calm,’ as he’s hit a match load of sprint the day before a game. He’s brilliant and from the disappointment that was a brilliant, brilliant way to bounce back.”
