Swedish icon Freddie Ljungberg, backed up by Peter Schmeichel, has suggested something has changed with Alexander Isak’s personality, admitting he doesn’t recognise the player who is currently trying to force his way out of Newcastle United.
[Göteborgs-Posten](https://www.gp.se/) cover comments from Ljungberg after he appeared on Viaplay this week, during which they discussed the striker’s current situation.
Isak has been at the center of the drama of the summer transfer window as he looks to secure a move from Newcastle to Liverpool.
He has gone on striker in the North East, publically criticising the club and insisting that promises made to him have been broken. He believes that he was given assurances he would be allowed to leave this summer. Newcastle insist that no such promises were made.
Liverpool have so far only made one bid for him and, up to now, haven’t gotten anywhere near the €150m asking price Newcastle initially laid out.
The Magpies are reluctant to let Isak go, even though he has reportedly made it clear to the club again this week that he has no intention of playing for them again.
The striker is seemingly determined to burn bridges and force his way out of St James Park, but Ljungberg is surprised by that, admitting he doesn’t recognise that man.
_“Something very bad has happened,”_ he said.
_“It’s not a good situation for anyone. Isak is a humble, calm and happy guy. I don’t recognise Isak. Something very bad has happened. He wants to force himself away, it’s a difficult situation.”_
_“I don’t recognise Isak either. I think he has bad advisors,”_ added Peter Schmeichel.
