Max Wober left Leeds United to join Werder Bremen on loan earlier in the summer.

Daniel Farke has been eager to clear out some unwanted players this summer, with Rasmus Kristensen permanently leaving to follow his fellow defender out the door.

The Peacocks are looking to take advantage of the opportunity of retaining Premier League football beyond this season, and Wober won’t be helping Leeds this season.

The 27-year-old’s influence at Werder Bremen could have a knock-on effect on whether Leeds can offload Isaac Schmidt, with deadwood needing to be cleared.

Werder Bremen contemplating move for Isaac Schmidt

Following the arrival of James Justin from Leicester, Schmidt’s future has been in doubt.

MORE LEEDS STORIES

Schmidt managed just 12 appearances for the Whites last season, and could bring in around £3million.

Werder Bremen have shown interest in the Swiss international, who could join former teammate Wober in Germany.

Schmidt was among the 44th percentile among fullbacks for defensive contributions last season

He was in the 68th percentile among fullbacks for aerial duels won

He has played as a left-back 56 times, right winger 17 times, and right-back 12 times in his career

However, the German side are having doubts over the move.

According to the print edition of BILD (pg 10, 27 August), Bremen are suddenly hesitating on whether to pursue a deal for Schmidt, after weeks of back and forth.

A lot depends on Wober, who is currently out injured for a few weeks, with the Germans currently having three options at left-back.

Schmidt will be desperate for a move away, given his limited gametime last season, and it will be disappointing for both parties should a move fail to materialise.

How much could Leeds lose if Schmidt’s sale falls through?

Having paid £2.5million for Schmidt last summer, missing out on a £3million fee isn’t ideal.

Schmidt is on £10,000-a-week with Leeds, so keeping him for another six months would use up £260,000, and keeping him for the whole season would mean they miss out on £520,000.

While not a huge amount, the overall £3.52million could prove to be the difference between signing a top talent such as Dilane Bakwa or not.
