Wolves boss Vitor Pereira dropped massive Newcastle United hint after Jorgen Strand Larsen brace

· 27 August 2025, 12:30

As Jorgen Strand Larsen was coming off the bench to bag a three-minute brace to send Wolverhampton Wanderers into the third round draw for the Carabao Cup, Newcastle United were planning a third bid for the Norwegian striker after having a £55m offer rejected.

That was Newcastle's second attempt to sign the 25-year-old after an initial £50 million bid was knocked back by Wolves.

Despite Strand Larsen only making his move to Wolves permanent this summer, there's still confidence that Newcastle can complete this deal before Monday's transfer deadline.

After a successful season on loan at Wolves, the Midlands club coughed up £25 million to make his move from Celta Vigo permanent this summer.

Vitor Pereira says every player has their price

It's believed that a bid of around £60 million is likely to be enough to get Wolves to part with their new acquisition, with Wolves boss Vitor Pereira dropping a massive hint in a post-match interview last night (via ESPN).

"If it's my decision, of course [Strand-Larsen stays]. Of course. Because he's a very important player. It's not only about the technical and tactical, it's about the character. He's a player with character.

"I can imagine his mind in this moment because he listens to a lot of things, reading a lot of things, and then he keeps the commitment.

"Until now, Jørgen is our player. We'll see what happens. I understand football. Football is football. Every player has a price, I believe. Even [Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo]. I understand football, but for me, he is very, very important for us. We'll see what happens."

Newcastle can't afford to let another striker slip through their grasp

Newcastle's options are running out, and if they believe there's a deal to be made at this point, we expect them to make it.

It's probably going to be a case of having to overpay slightly, but after chasing strikers for an entire summer with no results, we can't come away empty-handed.

Last year, when we failed to sign Marc Guehi, we at least had other options at centre-back to get us through a season; that's not really the case with centre-forwards, and we need to sign at least one and then convince Alexander Isak to get back to work.
