Wolves have played their cards with Newcastel United brilliantly this summer as they hold out for £60million to sell Jorgen Strand Larsen.
25-year-old Wolverhampton Wanderers forward only permanently joined the club this summer from Celta Vigo for a fee in the region of £23m – a clause automatically triggered under condition set in his original loan spell from the La Liga outfit last season.
Strand Larsen scored 14 goals in the Premier League for Wolves last season but Newcastle United are now desperate to make him theirs alongside Yoane Wissa to replace Alexander Isak
The Swede has put the Newcastle club on red alert with just days left in this 2025 summer transfer window. Isak refused all offers and pressure in a meeting with Newcastle co-owner Jamie Reuben and a delegatiom from the PIF, repeating that he has no intention to play for the club again.
Newcastle want Strand Larsen and Wolves are willing to sell as Vitor Pereira drops crucial
Although the Premier League summer transfer window slams shut on Deadline Day on Monday at 7pm, Wolves appear ready to do business with Newcastle United.
But at the right price.
Newcastle United had a second bid of £55m rejected late on Tuesday evening but will have to increase their offer by £5m to get the deal over the line.
Wolves manager Vitor Pereira has dropped the crucial words to confirm his club’s readiness to make a deal happen – and in turn set off the dominos needed for Liverpool to sign Isak.
He said: “Until now, Jorgen is our player, and we’ll see what happens. Football is football; every player has a price, I believe. Even Messi or Cristiano. But he is very, very important for us. We’ll see what happens.”
Pereira also insisted Strand Larsen remains loyal to Wolves even if a transfer could still happen: “I know him very well. He will never, never force a move. There are players I have known in this situation, and they just ask me not to play. But Larsen wants to play every time.”
What are the dominos that need to fall for Liverpool to sign Alexander Isak before Deadline Day 2025?
From Newcastle’s perspective, they want to sign new attackers to replace Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak before they allow the latter to leave this summer and Liverpool will need to pay up to £150m.
I still believe the price will be closer to £130m but this transfer should have been over awhile ago no so anything can happen between now and Monday at 7pm BST.
If Liverpool don’t sign Isak, there are going to be a lot of questions to answer regarding squad depth but they must have confidence of getting it done to be willing to wait this long with no sign of alternatives on the horizon.
