Luke Edwards has a theory involving Jorgen Strand Larsen and Alexander Isak at Newcastle

Newcastle United have turned their attention to Wolves star Jorgen Strand Larsen, but it may not have much of an impact in regard to one Alexander Isak.

Wolves have rejected Newcastle’s latest bid for Strand Larsen, who scored a brace for the Molineux club against West Ham in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

Newcastle have also tried to sign Yoane Wissa, although they have continually been met with frustration in their pursuit of the Brentford forward.

Indeed, Newcastle reportedly need to sign two strikers before they consider selling Isak to Liverpool. The Reds, meanwhile, will need to improve their opening offer for the Sweden star rather significantly.

Wissa and Strand Larsen could be argued as Newcastle’s replacements for Isak and Callum Wilson, offering hope to Liverpool fans about landing the wantaway 25-year-old.

Luke Edwards, however, has shared his latest theory.

Newcastle United not looking to replace Alexander Isak

All summer, The Daily Telegraph journalist has said Isak is not for sale.

Clearly, while the transfer window is open, there is a chance that things could change. However, Edwards has long insisted that PIF have blocked Isak’s move to Liverpool.

Taking to social media platform X on Tuesday, he suggested that Newcastle are not trying to sign both Wissa and Strand Larsen at the same time. It now looks like it will be a case of one or the other to replace Wilson.

As such, Isak still may not be allowed to leave for Anfield.

Liverpool still unwilling to pay £150m for Alexander Isak

Newcastle have already confirmed there are conditions in which Isak could be sold. Last week, a club statement read: “As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired.

“We do not foresee those conditions being met.”

Still, it’s widely thought that those conditions are Newcastle signing two strikers and Liverpool meeting their £150million valuation.

At this stage of the window, that looks unlikely to happen. Liverpool don’t want to pay £150million for Isak, so it seems doubtful Newcastle would suddenly relent and sell him for below his reported asking price.

Quite whether keeping Isak is a good thing or not is up for debate at this stage. However, if Liverpool are not willing to put up the money and only one striker is signed this summer, then it would be foolish to let him go.
