It was thought James Justin’s arrival had cleared the path for Isaac Schmidt to leave Elland Road before the end of the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old has struggled for game time under Daniel Farke, failing to make a single Championship start last season as the Whites pipped Burnley to the title on goal difference. Although Schmidt featured in a number of pre-season friendlies, Farke has left the Switzerland international out of his three matchday squads in the 2025/26 campaign.
It is understood Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen are working on a £3m deal to sign Schmidt. It is a move that has been on the cards for a number of weeks but will the transfer be concluded before Monday's 7pm deadline?
German outlet Bild has today reported a deal for Schmidt is in jeopardy. The newspaper states Bremen are now hesitating over whether to sign Schmidt after landing Southampton right-back Yukinari Sugawara. His arrival means they now have four full-backs on their books in Sugawara, Felix Agu, Mitchell Weiser and Olivier Deman. The latter two are currently injured and United loanee Max Wober, who can also fill in at left-back, is also on the sidelines.

Leeds United
Greenwood medical
Attacking midfielder Sam Greenwood is edging closer to joining Pogon Szczecin. Journalist Pete O'Rourke says Greenwood has flown out to Poland to undergo a medical ahead of finalising a €4m (£3.4m) switch.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has previously reported that Greenwood will join Pogon on three-year deal plus one-year option. It was widely expected Greenwood would leave United, having spent the past two seasons on loan at Middlesbrough and Preston North End.
The 23-year-old, who can play anywhere across the front line, joined United from Arsenal in 2020. Greenwood has played 35 times for the Whites, scoring his only goal against AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League, before being deemed surplus to requirements by Farke.
