UCL club chief to throw Chelsea loanee in at the deep end ‘immediately’ after joining

The fruitful relationship that exists between Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund continues to benefit both clubs.

Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund, who are both in the upcoming draw for this season’s Champions League group phase, have conducted plenty of transfer business between themselves recently.

Earlier this summer, Chelsea completed the permanent signing of Jamie Gittens from the Bundesliga club. In return, Dortmund completed the permanent signing of Carney Chukwuemeka from the Premier League side yesterday.

Dortmund have now announced on Wednesday morning via X that they have signed Blues defender Aaron Anselmino, 20, on a season-long loan.

Speaking last month, Anselmino admitted he wanted to go out on loan after speaking with Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca.

The Argentine centre-back is joining the Dortmund first team with huge potential and quality but not too much experience. Currently, his record in senior football is 23 appearances for Boca Juniors and just one match for Chelsea.

Borussia Dortmund sporting director excited by Aaron Anselmino loan signing

Sebastian Kehl, who’s operated as Dortmund’s sporting director for the last three years, has reacted with huge delight to the confirmed news that Anselmino has joined from Chelsea.

Kehl said via Dortmund’s official website: “We have been following Aaron since his time at Boca Juniors. He is a very good solution in our current situation. A talented player who has demonstrated his quality at a young age in very emotional stadiums.

“We will integrate him quickly because we need him immediately and are looking forward to seeing Aaron in the black and yellow jersey this season.”

Chelsea have played a transfer blinder with Aaron Anselmino

As mentioned above, Anselmino is going to be fast-tracked into Dortmund’s side straight away.

The Germans are going through a bit of a defensive crisis because of injuries to Nico Schlotterbeck, Niklas Sule and Emre Can. It opens the door for the Chelsea loanee to fight for a starting position from day one, especially because Dortmund manager Niko Kovac prefers to use a back three.

It is fantastic news to hear that Anselmino will get immediate opportunities to try and impress for European giants Dortmund.

Anselmino has bulked up off the pitch in preparation for more first-team football, and we’ll learn a lot about his levels with how he performs in these first few weeks in Germany.

If the 20-year-old ball-playing centre-half shines for Dortmund, he could suddenly become a viable option for Chelsea’s first team next year. It looks like the Blues have found the perfect loan destination for the South American talent to progress and test himself at a high level, where the pressure will certainly be on.
