Leeds United have not had the best of days recently, losing to Arsenal over the weekend and suffering a shock defeat on Tuesday night. Daniel Farke was adamant that his side would try to progress to the next round, but their efforts were halted.
Leeds made a lot of changes, as most of their new signings made their first starts for the club. Jaka Bijol, Noah Okafor and Sebstiaan Bornauw all started their first games on Tuesday night. Despite the quality in Farke’s side, they were matched by Sheffield Wednesday’s youngsters.

The result could have been much different if Leeds took their chances in the second half. Daniel Farke’s side seemed to create a lot of opportunities when Calvert-Lewin was substituted on. Unfortunately, he failed to convert some big chances, leading to the result.
After the game, he had some things to say about his debut:
”Very proud to make my debut for this great club tonight, but also disappointed with how it went. I came here to give everything and that’s what i will continue to do. Can’t wait to see you all at elland road.” he posted on X.
This was his first ever appearance for the club, and the rustiness showed.
What Daniel Farke has said about the performance
Daniel Farke was surprisingly pleased with how Calvert-Lewin played, and said that the striker would be scoring goals soon, when he gains match sharpness.
“He actually had 3 chances when he came on, you know, during the game I am happy he was getting those chances.
“It is his first minutes of the season and it was good to see him get in the right positions. We know Dominic will get sharper and will take these chances in the future.
“He is a fantastic striker and he is what we need up front, it is not always easy to come on the pitch and have chances come at you so quick but he has the ability to get in the right places.
“It is also tough when you are so quickly into things and anything can happen with penalties. He has a great record taking penalties and this was an unfortunate moment for him.”
