The future of Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji hangs in the balance, as he is expected to give his final answer on a potential move to Galatasaray by Thursday afternoon.

The Turkish champions have reportedly reached a £15 million agreement with Manchester City for the 30-year-old, according to reports from Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu and football insider Fabrizio Romano.

Galatasaray’s pursuit of a new center-back has been a priority, with manager Okan Buruk seeking to add more quality to his defense. Akanji, with his wealth of experience and reliable performances for both Manchester City and the Swiss national team, has emerged as a prime target.

Since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, Akanji has been a consistent performer, making nearly 150 appearances for the club. However, with Pep Guardiola’s squad stacked with defensive talent, the Swiss international’s future at the Etihad has become uncertain.

Despite interest from other clubs, including Bayer Leverkusen and Crystal Palace—which reportedly submitted its own £15 million bid—Galatasaray appears to be in the strongest position to secure the defender. The quick agreement on a transfer fee between the two clubs suggests a deal is close, but the final decision rests solely with Akanji.

With time running out in the transfer window, all eyes will be on Akanji’s response. A move to Istanbul would not only provide a new challenge for the defender but also mark a major defensive upgrade for Galatasaray.
