In some sense, it's fair to question what the Cleveland Browns are doing with Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel. Drafting two quarterbacks, one in the third and one in the fifth round, just for neither of them to play for a 40-year-old, is questionable, no matter how they want to spin it.
However, in the Browns’ defense, they still have games to win, and it's obvious that they believe Joe Flacco gives them the best opportunity to do so.
On the other hand, many believe that the Browns haven't set up either player for success, including former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III.
Griffin even went as far as saying that the Browns need to trade one of them, noting that neither has gotten an opportunity to show what they really have as a player.
"So when people say hey they're setting him up for failure, this is what they're talking about. I believe the Browns have good intentions for all their quarterbacks in their room. I don't believe that their execution of making it look like they have the best interest of everybody in the room was there. How can you get a proper assessment of Shedeur Sanders if you don't allow him to play with the same players that Dillon Gabriel played with?"
"It doesn't make sense," [Griffin continued](https://x.com/RGIII/status/1960013941871878428?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1960013941871878428%7Ctwgr%5E5d878de53a1fb187ee9db59b0717b9407976ab36%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.si.com%2Fnfl%2Frobert-griffin-shedeur-sanders-dillon-gabriel). "You set yourself up for that. So I say that in closing that I believe the Browns need to trade either Dillon Gabriel or Shedeur Sanders. Because right now it's not about it not being fair for either guy. It's not a growth or leadership environment for either guy. And that makes it a bad, toxic situation around their quarterback conversation in the media."
A third and fifth round pick doesn't guarantee much in the NFL nowadays, so it's also fair to question whether the Browns ever thought they'd start either one.
It's also very early, with the season not even starting, despite Flacco being announced as the Week 1 starter.
Until everything plays out, these conversations might be a bit premature.
