Kellen Moore Gushes About Saints’ New Starting QB

The New Orleans Saints have been in search of a reliable starting quarterback since the days of Drew Brees.

Brees is viewed as one of the best quarterbacks in league history, so replacing him was always going to be a tall task, but the Saints have had especially tough luck in finding the right person.

Jameis Winston showed promise at times, but he wasn’t consistent enough for the Saints to have long-term faith in him.

The front office and coaching staff wanted to give themselves a few options in the offseason leading to the 2025 campaign, having an open competition for the starting role.

Rookie Tyler Shough and second-year player Spencer Rattler were the two front-runners for the job, and it took a while for the team to make its decision.

After seeing both players in training camp and the preseason, Rattler was recently named the starter, which was met with some scrutiny from the media and fanbase.

Head coach Kellen Moore seems to have a lot of faith in him, as he mentioned in a press conference shared by Mike Garafolo on X.

“He’s just been consistent. He’s made some really good decisions throughout this whole entire process and his ability to make plays with his arm and his feet have certainly showed up,” Moore said.

Rattler might have had his shortcomings during his opportunities in 2024, but Moore believes he’s fixed a lot of bugs and kinks in his game and is more than ready for another chance.

The NFC South has been up for grabs in recent seasons, but it seems like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are starting to lock it down, having found Baker Mayfield as their franchise starter.

Will Rattler end up making a similar impact for the Saints to start the season, giving them a shot at winning the division?
