We are officially in waiver wire season.

Every NFL team has reached an initial 53-man roster, but that is set to change today. The New York Jets hold the No. 7 overall waiver wire priority, and they’re looking to improve the tight end position.

“Tight end is a position that I think they’re going to be actively looking at on the waiver wire,” Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic explained on the “Flight Plan” podcast. One of the possible targets Rosenblatt mentioned was former New York Giants tight end Greg Dulcich, who was waived ahead of final roster cuts on Tuesday, August 26.

#Jets aren’t done making moves!

NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero called the Giants’ decision to cut Greg Dulcich “a surprise.”

“The Giants are cutting TE Greg Dulcich, per source. Still only 25, Dulcich led the NFL in preseason TDs and could be claimed on waivers,” Pelissero posted.

The Jets Could Upgrade the TE Position With Dulcich

Dulcich is listed at 6-foot-4 and tips the scales at 245 pounds. He entered the league as the No. 80 overall pick in the third round of the 2022 NFL draft.

The former UCLA product spent two and a half seasons with the Denver Broncos, the team that drafted him.

Dulcich popped as a rookie, finishing with 33 receptions for 411 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

However, he was never able to recapture that same glory. Dulcich’s sophomore campaign in 2023 was marred by a troublesome hamstring injury.

Then in 2024, Dulcich fell out of favor with the coaching staff and was released in late November after being a healthy scratch for eight games.

Dulcich landed with the Giants after being claimed off waivers.

The tools are clearly there, and head coach Aaron Glenn has said multiple times this offseason that if you have shown it on tape before, he knows that it is in there. That is clearly the case for Dulcich based on his rookie film.

Jeremy Ruckert Is on Thin Ice Heading Into Waiver Wire Time

Former Ohio State tight end Jeremy Ruckert made the initial 53-man roster for the Jets on Tuesday, August 26. That doesn’t mean he will be on the roster come Week 1.

“I would think he is on wobbly ground. If they’re basing it on the way these guys played, like Jeremy Ruckert should be on the bubble still. He just did not show enough ultimately: Andrew Beck was better than him [and] Stone Smartt was better than him,” Rosenblatt bluntly said on the “Flight Plan” podcast.

Ruckert has struggled in every facet of playing the TE position at the NFL level. He has struggled as a blocker and as a receiver. He has the Ohio State connection with starting quarterback Justin Fields, but that might not be enough to save him.
