The Buffalo Bills made a series of roster decisions on Tuesday since it was cutdown day in the NFL. All NFL rosters had to be reduced to 53 players by 4:00 p.m.ET on Tuesday.

Just because a player made the 53-man roster doesn’t mean they are going to be on the team at the start of the season. Often, players who were cut from other teams are picked up, leaving other players who made the active roster to be waived. Sometimes, even teams will sign free agents that have been sitting on the open market for months.

Free Agents Starting to Sign in The NFL

On Monday, the Las Vegas Raiders agreed to a contract with former Bills receiver Amari Cooper. The 31-year-old was a free agent all summer and finally signed two weeks before the season. Many veterans prefer not to attend training camp, so they wait to sign after it concludes. Another former Bills player, corneback Rasul Douglas, signed with the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday.

Teams are starting to evaluate their rosters and see what they need to add before their first regular-season game. The Raiders definitely needed to add another receiver, which is why they acquired Cooper. Similarly, the Dolphins needed another cornerback, which is why they added Douglas.

The Bills are in the same position as those two teams, needing help in some areas. Although Buffalo has one of the best rosters in the NFL, it still has a few areas for improvement. One area they need help with is the defensive back position. The Bills’ secondary was tormented in the preseason, even giving up 38 points to the Chicago Bears.

With not many trade candidates out there, the Bills decided to add a familiar face on Wednesday.

Bills’ Signed Jordan Poyer on Wednesday

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, “The Billsare signing former All-Pro safety Jordan Poyer, bringing their longtime star back to Buffalo, per Drew Rosenhaus and Kyle Lincoln.”

Poyer played seven years for Buffalo from 2017 to 2023. In his final season with the Bills, he made his first and only Pro Bowl appearance. However, in 2024, the Bills and Poyer were unable to reach a contract, and he headed to play for Miami.

It seemed like Poyer was always going to return to Buffalo sometime this year, as the Bills needed defensive help and he was available.

Buffalo now has the band back together to try and win their first-ever Super Bowl in franchise history.
