For a long time, Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors had a big void in his resume: he wasn’t a Finals MVP.
It wasn’t until his fourth championship that Curry was named Finals MVP.
After years of people talking about that fact, Curry himself is speaking up.
He said he didn’t focus too much on winning Finals MVP because he was dedicated solely to getting a title for his team and didn’t want a distraction.
On top of that, he celebrated Kevin Durant and said the former Warriors star deserved his two Finals MVP trophies.
“The idea of that being a conversation, I couldn’t run from it. We had been to four straight Finals at that point, and had won three out of four. It goes into the conversation in the sense of, in that moment, if you’re playing for a Finals MVP, you’re probably not gonna get it done because you’re getting distracted and might sabotage yourself a little bit. In 2018, I got close to thinking about it, but I’d rather have rings and the opportunity to go get rings. But KD’s two [Finals MVPs] are beyond well-deserved,” Curry said.

Curry was finally granted the honor at the end of 2021-22, but he had a chance three times before.
However, his first championship saw Andre Iguodala get the trophy, and Durant won it the next two times Golden State went all the way.
Some people were shocked when Curry missed out three times, but he was finally celebrated as the Most Valuable Player after his team took down the Boston Celtics.
It doesn’t matter how long it took him because he was still a crucial part of the Warriors’ win each time.
Regardless of how many trophies he took home, the Warriors wouldn’t have become champions four times if it weren’t for Curry and his amazing on-court work.
