Grimsby Town star Tyrell Warren reflects on time at Man Utd ahead of Carabao Cup clash, 'I learned...'

Manchester United travel to Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup second round on Wednesday night.

It’s a golden opportunity for Manchester United to record their first win of the season, after taking just one point from their first two Premier League games of the season.

Ruben Amorim could hand new £73.7 million signing Benjamin Sesko his full debut after substitute appearances in the home defeat to Arsenal and Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Fulham.

There are lots of questions surrounding United after a slow start to the season. Will Kobbie Mainoo get enough chances under Amorim, or should Andre Onana start ahead of Altay Bayindir?

One thing is certain. Despite losing their first two games of the season, United go to Blundell Park as favourites to reach the Carabao Cup third round. Anything less would put Amorim under fierce pressure.

Tyrell Warren ready for Manchester United reunion

The Carabao Cup second round will see Grimsby Town star Tyrell Warren take on his boyhood club, after coming through the United academy.

The 25-year-old defender is preparing for what will be his first-ever game against Premier League opposition.

In an interview with the official EFL website, Warren reflects on making friends for life at United, saying: “It’s really exciting. We’re ready to challenge ourselves against a Premier League team.

“I’ve never played against a Premier League side before so it’s a huge challenge for me personally.

“I enjoyed every minute coming through at Man United – making friends for life and I learned an awful lot playing in that set-up, so to play against them now will be a great experience.”

Warren believes Grimsby Town’s togetherness can cause problems for the visitors.

“They should expect to see good attacking play from us. We’ll be solid as a team and we have that togetherness – which is a massive thing for us,” he added.

“In a game like this the fans will be massive for us. It’s obviously as tough a game as you get against a Premier League team so we need the fans as much as possible to help us get through it.”

Gary Neville tips Sesko to start against Grimsby Town

Former United captain Gary Neville believes Sesko must start against Grimsby Town ahead of Saturday’s Premier League home game against Burnley.

That means Warren may get the chance to test himself against one of the most exciting strikers in Europe.

Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, he said: “Sesko, at the moment, let’s just say it, he’s nowhere near in terms of fitness or just getting up to speed.

“Ruben Amorim said before the game that there is a clamour to play him. Last week, I was saying, ‘Look, let’s just get him straight in’.

“He is going to have to get him in against Grimsby and give him 90 minutes.

“He’s going to have to probably play him against Burnley next Saturday, just to get him going, because you can see he needs football.

“What you can’t do is let a player of that value, that potential, just keep being on the bench.

“The problem he’ll have is that he wants to keep [building] the team, but I think what you saw when they brought Sesko on, put (Mason) Mount into midfield and took Casemiro off, they did get opened up and it looked like Fulham could score.”
