Chelsea have stalled in the transfer market with their ambitions to sign Xavi Simons coming to an absolute standstill. They made a surprising move recently with David Ornstein reporting that they were now in touch with midfielder Fermin Lopez over a move, which could see them move away from their chase of the Dutch talent.
Chelsea Turn to Fermin Lopez As They Grow Tired of Xavi Simons Negotiations
Dynamo Fermin Lopez
The young Barcelona midfielder has been described as a “dynamo” in the past, known for his ability to break into the box late to create chances. Despite prior interest from Manchester City and current interest from the Blues, he hasn’t been able to crack a consistent spot in the first team at his current club.
A fairly strong spell with Deportivo Linares saw the midfielder grab 16 goal contributions in 40 appearances. He has since gone on to make 89 appearances for the Blaugrana, notching 19 goals and 11 assists in just under 4000 minutes. He only completed a handful of full 90’s in La Liga last term and could be tempted away with the promise of more game time.
Forcing Leipzig’s Hand
Reports from LondonFirst indicate that this is a calculated move from the Blues who have grown “tired” of a lack of movement in the negotations for Simons. They hope that their interest in Lopez will cause RB Leipzig to make a decision. If not, they could end interest in the talented Dutchman to go for the Spanish youngster instead.
With the transfer window winding down and Cole Palmer currently dealing with a groin issue, decisions will have to be made to bolster the attack as the club desire. Whether they get the former PSV man or the Barcelona man, they are sure to provide competition in the stacked attack forming at Stamford Bridge.
