By the end of the transfer window, the Leeds United attack will be in much different shape than it was last season. The Whites had one of the best units, scoring 95 goals in the Championship.
Dan James, Joel Piroe and Manor Solomon were the standouts in the league. But the club have lost some key depths in attacking positions, alongside Solomon returning to his parent club after his loan. Patrick Bamford has been left out of the first team plans for this season, and Mateo Joseph has been loaned out to Mallorca in Spain. Largie Ramazani is also set to leave after being left out of the matchday squad over the weekend.

It was reported earlier on Wednesday that the Whites were one of the clubs eyeing a move for Leipzig forward Timo Werner. The former Chelsea and Spurs man is surplus to requirements this season, and is available for sale. Bild reported that some clubs have launched enquiries to see if a move is feasible.
Now, Leeds are said to have walked away from any potential deal due to the financial commitments of the attackers contract. The excerpt from Bild reads:
“Although the transfer window is still open for another six days, Werner has so far been unresponsive to any inquiries. And yet, there have been some: According to BILD information, there were even two interested Premier League clubs – Burnley FC and newly promoted Leeds United.
“Instead of the Premier League and the Big Apple, Werner’s prospects now lie in the stands. The former DFB star is too expensive (currently on a €10 million annual salary [approximately £165,000 per week]) and no longer fits the bill, it is said. RB Leipzig has announced internally that they no longer want to use him.”
No use breaking wage structure over Werner signing
Per the report, the wages have scared Leeds off, and that is a very good thing. The club cannot afford to bring on another huge contract that provides minimum productivity like with Patrick Bamford. Steering clear of that move is very good business for the club.
