Leeds United fans don’t have much to be excited about after losing to Sheffield Wednesday, with RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner now a transfer target.
The Carabao Cup second round tie at Hillsborough on 26 August saw Leeds lose on penalties to Sheffield Wednesday after the game ended 1-1.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin struggled against Sheffield Wednesday, with the former Everton striker missing several opportunities and eventually his penalty.
Now, Werner is being linked with a move to Leeds, as it appears Daniel Farke wants to bolster his attack before deadline day, but that may not be the wisest choice.

Timo Werner can’t fix goalscoring issue at Leeds United
Werner’s reputation precedes him, with the Germany international known for his rather underwhelming spell in the Premier League.

While the 29-year-old had a couple of good seasons in the Bundesliga, which bagged him a move to Chelsea in 2020, the versatile forward has struggled since.
The Blues shipped the attacker back to Leipzig after scoring just 10 Premier League goals in 56 appearances.
Werner’s loan stint at Tottenham was arguably worse as he failed to find the back of the net in 18 league matches last season, and the Elland Road faithful won’t have much to look forward to if he signs for Leeds.

Speaking on The Gab and Juls Show on 7 October 2024, ex-Premier League midfielder Don Hutchinson said: “I don’t want to be unkind to Timo Werner, but you sort of can’t help it, because you want him to succeed.
“He’s not a bad player, he’s got loads of strengths, in that Man United game he could’ve scored three or four. There was one moment in that game that summed him up, he ran 50 yards and all he had to do was find a Spurs player, he missed them both and found a Man United player.
“It’s a technique thing, at his age, he won’t find the goals because he’s proven that he can’t finish, but he stretches games, that’s why Spurs signed him.”

Daniel Farke wrong to replace Patrick Bamford with Dominic Calvert-Lewin
Farke rightly doesn’t have Patrick Bamford in his plans for the Premier League campaign, but replacing the Englishman with Calvert-Lewin doesn’t make sense.
Leeds have arguably got Bamford 2.0 in the former Evertonian, who has struggled to stay fit in recent seasons, and was rarely able to showcase his goalscoring ability in Merseyside last season.
Calvert-Lewin’s performance against Sheffield Wednesday has vindicated the Elland Road faithful who were against his signing in the first place, as Farke needs a much more reliable outlet up front.
The West Yorkshire outfit have scored just one goal in their opening two Premier League matches, as Lukas Nmecha found the back of the net with a late penalty against Everton on the opening day of the season, highlighting a possible problem the German manager may have in LS11.
