Alan Shearer claims Chelsea star is 'just too good' as he names him in his Team of the Week

Alan Shearer was very impressed with one Chelsea player’s performance against West Ham United last Friday.

Chelsea beat West Ham 5-1 at the London Stadium, with Joao Pedro, Pedro Neto, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Trevoh Chalobah all managing to get their names on the scoresheet.

Following the game, Estevao Willian came in for a lot of praise after setting up Fernandez’s goal. Marc Cucurella loved Estevao’s performance, lauding the young Brazilian in a post-match interview.

However, Estevao was not the only Chelsea star to catch the eye during the Blues’ win.

Alan Shearer names Joao Pedro in Premier League Team of the Week

For Shearer, Pedro was actually Chelsea’s standout player after the 23-year-old came up with three goal contributions.

As a result, the Newcastle United legend has named him in his Premier League Team of the Week.

“Just too good for West Ham,” Shearer said on the Premier League’s official website. “Scored the equaliser, then set up the second goal for Pedro Neto, and got his second assist of the game when Trevoh Chalobah made it 5-1.”

On the night, Pedro played in the No.10 position after Cole Palmer’s withdrawal from the matchday squad, and he could start there again on Saturday when Chelsea face Fulham.

Palmer was not with the first team on Tuesday as the attacking midfielder recovers from the groin issue that kept him out of the West Ham game. He now looks like a doubt for his side’s next London derby.

Joao Pedro lauds Estevao Willian following West Ham win

Chelsea may not have beaten West Ham without Pedro. As Shearer mentioned, it was the former Brighton & Hove Albion man who equalised for Enzo Maresca‘s side before setting up Neto for their second goal.

He is not taking all of the credit, though, and has given Estevao plenty of praise for his contribution to the victory.

“We’ve got so much power in the team,” Pedro was quoted as saying by Chelsea’s official club website after the full-time whistle. “Cole Palmer was out today, but we played Estevao Willian and he showed his quality. It’s good to have a team like this.”

On paper, Chelsea have one of the best attacks in the Premier League, and they proved that last week without even having their star forward on the pitch. When Palmer returns and reaches top form, that Chelsea attack could be a really scary sight.
