Report: Newcastle lodge offer to replace Isak with £26m striker who Leeds United recently scouted

Leeds United take on Newcastle United in the Premier League this weekend. And ahead of the game, the future of striker Alexander Isak, remains a hot topic.

Alexander Isak has been at the centre of a transfer saga this summer. Liverpool have been trying to sign the Newcastle United forward but have so far fallen short in their attempts, and Isak is yet to play for Eddie Howe’s side in any competition this season.

There remains a lot of uncertainty over whether or not Isak will leave ahead of the September 1st transfer deadline and whether or not he’ll come back into contention should he not manage to seal a move away from St James’ Park.

Howe, meanwhile, is pressing on without the striker in his plans. And on Saturday, his Newcastle United side go up against Leeds United who lost 5-0 away at Arsenal last time out following their opening day win against Everton.

Newcastle United make bid for Artem Dovbyk after Leeds United links

Reports in Italy have revealed that Newcastle United have made a loan bid for a striker who Leeds United actually know very well in Artem Dovbyk. Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport report that Newcastle have made a loan offer for Ukrainian striker Dovbyk at Roma.

And without saying whether or not the bid has been rejected or not, the report seems to suggest that Roma will not entertain a loan offer for the 28-year-old striker whom they are trying to sell permanently in order to fund other transfer deals.

Leeds United have been linked with a move for Dovbyk this summer. In fact, earlier in August it was revealed that Leeds United had scouted Dovbyk during a pre-season friendly against Everton, with reports that Roma now want £26m for Dovbyk this summer.

Will Leeds United sign another striker before deadline day?

So far this summer, Leeds United have signed Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha in their attack. The pair both arrived as free transfers and whilst Nmecha has shown promise in his opening games for the club, Calvert-Lewin suffered a nightmare debut for the club.

Against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night, Calvert-Lewin missed a handful of good opportunities before blazing his penalty over the bar as Leeds lost against their Yorkshire rivals in the second round of the cup.

Dovbyk is just one striker who Leeds have looked at this summer and could potentially turn to in the final days of the transfer window.

Other names linked include the likes of Ermedin Demirovic and Fotis Ioannidis, with Farke himself saying after the Wednesday game that Leeds may look to strengthen their attack in what’s left of the summer transfer window.
