Some have pondered the idea of the New York Knicks moving on from Mitchell Robinson during the trade deadline. Robinson is set to hit the free agency market after next season and will likely be one of the better centers available.
While his injuries have been an unfortunate factor in his career with the Knicks, he's still an above-average defender, rebounder, and more.
There will certainly be a team willing to give him money if the Knicks aren't.
Would Knicks keep Mitchell Robinson?

Despite some of the rumors about the Knicks potentially looking to move on from him, it was reported by James L. Edwards III of The Athletic that the Knicks could sign Robinson to a team-friendly extension. If the Knicks could get Robinson at the number they want, there's plenty of reason to keep him in town.
“I’ve gotten the sense that New York would be willing to sign Mitchell Robinson to a team-friendly extension that covers them in the event he continues to get hurt,” [Edwards wrote](https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6567128/2025/08/25/knicks-questions-mitchell-robinson/). “On the flip side, I’m sure Robinson points to his performances in the postseason and believes he can get one more nice deal from the Knicks or someone else if he’s able to stay healthy in a contract year.”

It's tough to say what Robinson is as a player at the stage of his career, but that isn't because of what he does on the court — it's only because of the injuries he's dealt with.
If Robinson can manage to play 50-plus games in the regular season and be healthy throughout the playoffs, the Knicks would be a much better team than they already are.
Hopefully, that'll be the case.
